Periodontal Treatment

Gum disease is a progressive condition that, left untreated, can lead to tooth loss.  In its early stages (gingivitis) it’s reversible with improved oral home care and thorough professional cleaning.  As it advances, it begins to destroy the bone, and the damage can no longer be repaired.  Early detection and prompt treatment can stop the disease process and prevent further damage.

Our non-surgical periodontal treatment program combines deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) to remove the tartar deposits with Ozone anti-microbial therapy to kill the harmful bacteria.  A non-surgical approach can be effective in treating mild to moderate periodontal conditions, but some patients can require surgical intervention.  Treatment is normally divided into two visits:  right and left side.  While some patients prefer to be numb, the majority can be comfortably treated using topical anesthetic.  Following the completion of active therapy, our hygienist will reevaluate your periodontal condition and polish your teeth.  At this time, she will recommend how often you should return for maintenance visits.  These visits are critical to monitor and control your periodontal disease.  It cannot be cured, but it can be managed.
